If you can handle a soldering tool and knows the difference between volt and ampere, you surely will like a RPM-meter kit from Vellemann-kit, which is obtainable from dealers of electronic parts at a price around 300 kr = 50$.
The 2625 kit handles all engines from 1 to 12 cylinders when properly (but easily) ajusted. The only problem is finding a waterproof case that fits is nicely.
